Alessandro Mendini
(Milan 1931)

After a long period of working with the studio Nizzoli Associati as a designer, he ceased to work actively in 1970 in order to concentrate on criticism and research. He was, until 1976, editor of the "Casabella " magazine, in that period the official organ of Italian Radical

Architecture; during this period he established numerous international connections. In 1976 he left "Casabella " in order to found the magazine "Modo". He edited this until 1979, the year in which he took over the editing of "Domus " a position in which he remained until 1985. Together with Andrea Branzi and Ettore Sottsass Jr.,

Mendini is considered one of the most important theoreticians and advocates of the renewal of Italian design during the 1980's, or Neomodernism.

Author, during the mid-eighties, of the new image of the Alessi company, he resumed his activity as an architect towards the end of that decade, also designing paintings and sculptures..
