Bond doorhandle (1994 prod. Olivari)

by Cecilia Fabiani
Theorist and planner, Andrea Branzi's realm includes the fields of architecture,
industrial and experimental design, urban planning, instruction, publishing, design
theory and criticism and cultural promotion.
His involvement in the avant-garde-extending from Archizoom Associati, 1964-1974,
to Studio Alchimia and Memphis in the Eighties-is fundamental to the work of Andrea
Branzi, who developed his artistic roots in the years preceding 1968 with the
birth of radical architecture and experimental design.
As
a theorist, Branzi addressed the theme of post-industrial society and the Second
Modernity. His thoughts and analyses start with society to arrive at people and
planning. This approach reflects the matrix of his formative years.

Branzi
approaches projects with an openness towards research and experimentation. In
creating objects, he pays particular attention to their materials and symbolic
aspects.
His poetics are clearly evoked in his Animali Domestici collection for Zabro-Zanotta
(1985 and 1986) and in his wooden lamps, river stone boxes and sonorous vases
at the Wood and Stones exhibition, Argentaurum Gallery, Knokke Zoute, Belgium
(1996).

In his articles and essays-for Casabella during his avant-garde years, as director
of Modo from 1983 to 1987, as consultant to Interni and Interni Annual in the
early Nineties, and for Terrazzo, Domus, and l'Unitˆ-he delved into theory, history
and project criticism.
The Bond door handle-designed by Andrea Branzi for Olivari-and its coordinate
pieces are characterized by fluid lines and formal equilibrium. |
